The Only Way To Do Great Work Is To Love What You Do
- Steve Jobs
Since I was very young I was always drawing, painting, creating & making. When I left school all I wanted to do was to spend forever making stuff! Anything & everything!
I attended Great Yarmouth Art College where I studied Art & Design & Surface Pattern. There was a lot of fun to be had with Art History, Textiles, Ceramics & Graphics being my favourite subjects.
When I left college, I set up home & married. I worked at a Screenprinting company where I had the chance to experience work in most of the factories departments...Acrylics, Finishing, Printing & finally the Graphics Department! Here I learnt many things...working with Illustrator & Photoshop opened up a whole new world for me! I spent a lot of time on technical drawings for Die's & working on the most awesome Laser Cutter...this experience was to help me no end when I decided to start my Bespoke Wedding Stationery business. The ultimate goal is to have a laser cutter of my own one day!
When we got married our own Wedding Invitations were rather unexciting, just a pack of mass produced slips. At the time from what I can recall, there wasn't much of a choice for us back then!
That's one of the reasons why I started to think about designing & handcrafting bespoke invitations for others. Nowadays anything goes with wedding celebrations, which makes my job unbelievably exciting & always varied!
As our children grew I gradually started to build my business so that I was able to spend quality time with them but to have something to take on full time once they were both at school.
I now have a lovely Studio where I can busy myself designing and making bespoke stationery, here I can hold consultations & viewings with couples with no need for them to rush.
There's nothing more lovely than seeing couples reactions when they pick up their Wedding Stationery and On The Day items.
As my son says 'How can it be a job if you love it so much Mummy'?
Originally we started out as Cherry Designs but it was never a name I was too struck on. Finally with a bit of help from the children we decided on a name change! We rebranded the business on 26.10.16 officially changing the name to Once Upon a Time Wedding Stationery. Very apt for someone obsessed with Fairytales & Happily Ever Afters!
